Have you ever tried to buy a piñata to match the color scheme and theme for your party? Ever noticed how expensive they are for a pull-string or a good size one? I have the perfect solution for you! I've been doing this every year for my son's birthday and it is super easy!
First, take a trip to your local super mercado (Mexican Market) and pick up a piñata there. A piñata from your local market will be more affordable than ordering online. When selecting one to take home, keep in mind the decorative plate in the middle doesn't matter since we will be fixing it for this project. Be sure you pick the piñata that has the color scheme to match your party theme. I purchased mine from my local super mercado for only $13! Way better than the $50 priced ones I have found online!
Total craft time: 15mins
1. Party Theme Dinner Plate
2. Scissors
3. Tissue
4. Glue Gun
Step 1: Take the tissue paper and cut into 5x5 squares. It doesn't have to be perfect, so don't worry about measuring.
Step 2: Use your hot glue gun to glue the dinner plate in place overtop of the one already on your pinata. Hold for a few seconds to ensure the glue adheres well.
Step 3: Take your tissue paper squares and grab from the center. Hot glue each square around the perimeter of the plate to cover the edges so they are not exposed.
Step 4: Repeat 1 - 3 on the other side.
Voila! You have your very own piñata to match your theme! Since I already had my hot glue gun, scissors, and plates I only needed to buy the piñata and tissue paper. Total cost $14!

This was originally a ninja turtle piñata that we customized to match our Monster's University theme!
